5 Ways to Jump-Start Your Year!

2/2/2020

I don't know about you all, but I think I'm tossing January aside and starting my 2020 in February - ha. Did anyone else feel like January lasted 100 days!? Between the announcement of the first Balancing Effect event, my grandmother's passing, new business projects, etc....January was pure emotional chaos for this gal. Thankfully, one of my New Years Resolutions is to embrace the struggle/chaos/grind, which I truly am working to do throughout all of this. Let's just say January included a lot of extra self-care sessions to keep myself in check.

If you too are feeling like your year is just getting started, let me suggest the below actions to help you jump-start your year and get off on the right foot! These 5 items are my tried and true annual traditions, and they haven't failed me yet. Read on to start fresh!

Clean Out Your Closet

I’m telling you, nothing feels better than tossing out all of those old clothes you don’t (or can’t) wear anymore and donating them to charity! Cleaning out/purging your closet is SUCH a great way to start the year. It frees up tons of closet space for all those future items you may need, and it allows you to rid yourself of excess clothing. I love handing over a bag to Goodwill each year, because I know that someone else will get so much joy out of something that I’m not using anymore.

Write Down Everything You’re Excited About in the new year

This is probably my favorite thing to do at the start of the year. I write out each month on a piece of paper and then, beside each month, I write every event occuring during that month that I’m excited for! And, of course, it is always likely that you’ll have more events to add throughout the year! It’s so neat to have a visual of all the fun things you’re psyched about over the course of 12 months, and I think it’s a great motivator to work hard so that you can really enjoy those things!

Deep Clean Your Home

This is definitely not one of my favorite things to do, but absolutely the most necessary. The key is to not make excuses; take one day of your weekend, grab some cleaning products, and go to town. I don't know about you, but I tend to “surface clean,” which is great for the short-term, but not so much when you’ve been living in the same place for awhile. Winter cleaning is the new spring cleaning, friends!

May I suggest the below? ;)

Write Down Your Ideal Schedule

This may be a whacky strategy, but one thing I’ve started doing is writing down what my ideal/dream schedule looks like, and then making it a point to look at it every single day so that I never get burnt out or lose sight of my “point Z” (aka my end goal). Every day that I look at this, it makes me work so much harder because I know that, one day, this schedule will be my reality and I’ll be doing exactly what I want to do if I keep pushing.
