Why Did I Create A Toast to Women?

2/13/2020

I was driving in the car on my way to my 9-5, listening to The Man by Taylor Swift on repeat, pissed off about something that was happening politically in our world, when the idea hit me like a ton of bricks. I immediately burst into tears because I knew that this was what we (women) all needed right now - an epic celebration in honor of our greatness...an environment where we could toast to one another and all of our achievements...an incredible evening sharing the successes of ourselves and others...a party to recognize everything we’re working to overcome in the world...a coming together of sisters and friends...an event that benefitted an organization fighting for women’s rights - A Toast to Women in honor of International Women’s Day. I immediately began brainstorming, researching the perfect venue partner, and crafting an evening that would hopefully change the lives of women in my community.

Charleston is filled with so many incredible women. It’s no secret that we are the majority of the population in this city, and the number of female-owned businesses is astounding. From the fitness professionals to the marketing mavens to the full-time mommas and hustlers - we are all crushing it out there. I wanted to create a memorable event to celebrate each and every one of us and to give back to an organization that empowers women, because we are all so special in each of our unique ways, and we need to remember and celebrate that. We need to continue to raise each other up to make a difference in the world.

A Toast to Women will be an epic evening in honor of International Women’s Day. This cocktail-attire party will include complimentary food and drink from both The Park Cafe and The Harbinger. It will have a silent auction filled with self-care goods and services from local, female-owned businesses. It will have a tarot card reader, a flower truck so guests can create their own beautiful bouquets, dance performances by the incredible Dance Lab, a DJ led dance party, and so much more.

My hope is that this event spreads like wildfire and we can partner with ambassadors in other cities to host events across the country for years to come. My hope is that this event continues to get bigger and better each and every International Women’s Day. My hope is that the Charleston community comes together to honor and celebrate the women in their city, who are working so hard every day to give back and create a better space for others. My hope is that you all join me for this inaugural event, my debut event with my company, The Balancing Effect - a mindful mental health company that empowers others to become the greatest versions of themselves.

I hope to see you there.
