I’m a firm believer in setting yourself up for success at the start of the week! That’s why every Sunday I set out with the intention to have a nice little self-care day to get myself extra ready for the week ahead. Self-care is absolutely something you should incorporate into your daily routine, but a little extra once a week is always a nice treat :)

Living with an anxiety disorder is no joke. And even though it’s something I’ve managed for half of my life now, there are still times when even modern medicine and yoga can’t calm me down. So, on the days when my usual methods can’t cut it, I try these other simple tricks to soothe myself.
When I created Tori Talks in August of 2016, I did so to fill a creative void in my life and also to help keep my sanity. I was lost, confused, and had no sense of direction as a young adult. I was overcome with fear for the future and so I used my passion for writing to keep me afloat. And as it turns out, other people were having similar experiences and could relate to my troubles. A beautiful community of wellness warriors was born, and we began to root for one another in all of our endeavors. To this day, we still do. Hey ladies. Love you, mean it. Keep f*cking crushing it out there.
And then everything began to fall into place for me - a great job, an incredible husband, and so on…and I began to feel shame and embarrassment posting articles about mental health despite my seemingly “put together” life. Someone literally told me during this time that I was the most put together twenty something they’d ever met and I wanted to laugh and cry and scream all at the same time. I felt the need to uphold a new image of a carefree, cool girl who works in social media and I didn’t want my coworkers, clients, or peers to stumble upon a blog post and see me as weak. Somewhere along the way, I allowed my flame to fade and I let my fear of being accepted keep me from doing the one thing I love most: storytelling in the hopes of helping others. |
