Change doesn't happen overnight. Change, to me, is more of a slow and steady race against the you you hope to be and the you you want to leave behind. It's taken me years to build up my healthy habits and change my negative mindsets, and I've still got a lot of work to do. See below for some of the simple switches I work to make in my daily life that help me become the best version of myself. Know that yours may look very different from mine, and that's okay! Kombucha or tea instead of wineI come from a long line of both alcoholics and casual drinkers, and I never thought much about my alcohol consumption until the past couple of years when I noticed my behaviors weren't necessarily serving me in a healthy way. Now, in the evenings, I opt for a glass of kombucha or a cup of tea to unwind after a long day. Reading instead of televisionThis is a new one I've been trying, and my reason for this is to both decrease my screen time and consume more media that fuels me in a healthy way. As you know from my New Years Resolution blog from earlier this month, I set a goal to read a book a month in 2020. I'm happy to report I've been crushing that goal so far. I'm currently on my third book of the year when writing this in late January! Girls night in instead of girls night outI'm at the point in my life where I neither want nor need to go out to a bar on the weekends. Luckily, my close girlfriends are the same way. Now, instead of selecting a bar or club to go to for our evenings together, we pick someone's house and we'll cook dinner together...watch a movie...sit around the kitchen table over charcuterie slowly sipping wine...anything else other than shouting over each other at a crowded, loud place LOL. This has been a huge time, money, and headache saver in my life. And it actually allows you to have genuine conversations because everyone can actually hear each other and contribute to the conversation. Cooking at home instead of eating out or ordering inCooking at home helps me eat more mindfully, save money, and enjoy my evenings with Albert more. We hardly ever go out to a restaurant for dinner, but we are culprits of ordering in or picking up food when we don't feel like cooking. This is something I'm constantly working on! Writing things down on paper instead of on my phoneAgain, this is something I do to help reduce my screen time and because I think it's so important to visually see your thoughts, hopes, and dreams on paper. When we write things down on our phones, it can easily be deleted later or get lost in our digital database. Writing things down not only helps you remember better, but also allows you to go back and look at what the past you was thinking or feeling at any given time. I'm excited to announce that the second Balancing Effect product will very much help in this department ;) What simple switches do you make that helps you become the best version of yourself, friends?
